Research Focus
Hormonal, neuroendocrine, and behavioral mechanisms responsible for the development and expression of animal social behavior, especially reproductive behavior. Projects from my laboratory included: (a) mechanisms of long-term monogamous relationships in the zebra finch, (b) development of preferences for opposite-sex partners in the zebra finch, (c) predictors of fertilization in the Japanese quail, (d) maternal effects on offspring fitness produced by sex steroid hormones in egg yolks, (e) neuroendocrine mechanisms underlying species differences in social behavior and social organization, and (f) phylogeny of vertebrate sex determining mechanisms.
